Do sugar and treats make us hyperactive?
Giving sugar to children does not make them hyperactive. In a study published not long ago in the British Medical Journal, Rachel Vreeman and Aaron Carroll of the Indiana School of Medicine (USA) released a dozen studies showing that the amount of sugar in the diet does not influence childhood behavior. According to Vreeman, the only thing that varies when children eat treats is that their parents, who have prejudices towards the effects of sweets, mistakenly perceive that their children are more restless and nervous.
Another common phrase among baubles fans is to note that if we swallow a gum it will stay in the stomach for seven years. Although stomach acids don't digest chewing gum, it doesn't take more than two days for gum to pass through the intestine and be expelled.
